About China Week in Nelson

China Week was an idea originally put forward by the Nelson City Council and Chinese Consulate General in Christchurch in 2014.

The event is a celebration Nelson’s historical and close links to China.

Nelson has long-standing connections with China, through our Sister Cities, Huangshi and Yangjiang. Since signing our sister city agreement in 1995, there have been many educational, medical, cultural, business, sporting, and municipal exchanges between our cities.

China Week brings together an exciting array of activities, exhibitions, performances and business talks to celebrate and promote cross-cultural relationships and connectivity. The event encourages stronger connections, enduring friendships and mutual benefits in the areas of education, business, and tourism.
